GENERAL INFORMATION
Anna Maria Knappenberger, daughter of John Knappenberger and
granddaughter of Conrad Knappenberger of Westmoreland County, was born 27
September 1808 in Westmoreland County, PA and died 3 December 1891 in Clarion County,
PA. She married Joseph DETAR, son of Jacob Detar (original spelling
Detarre) and Anna Maria Hagelberger (sometimes written as Huckleberry) on 25 February
1830 in Westmoreland County, PA. Joseph was born 30 October 1808 in Westmoreland
County, PA and died 6 June 1885 in Clarion County, PA.

Joseph, the eleventh and last child of Jacob and Mary Detar, was only
10 years old when his father died. Most of the Detar family remained in
Westmoreland County while Joseph and Anna Maria left there for Venango County
(now Clarion County), PA shortly after they married. NOTE:
Clarion County was formed in 1839.
Joseph and Anna Maria had
six children.

DAVID D. DETAR (1833-1919)
David D. Detar was born 3 December 1833 in Washington Township,
Venango County (later to become Clarion County), PA and died 1919 in Clarion County, PA. David married Sarah Jane HOLLIS,
daughter of William C and Jane Hollis, on 15 March 1859. She was born 28 April 1839 in Fryburg, Clarion County,
PA and died between 1910-1920 in Clarion County, PA. They had eight children.
1. William Joseph Detar was born 4 April 1860 in Salem Township,
Clarion County,
PA and
died 16 December 1921 in Buffalo, Erie Co., New York. He married Clara C. FRILL,
daughter of Jonathan Frill and Eliza McMichael, about 1881. Clara was
born 16 November 1862 in Clarion County, PA and died 13 March 1914 in Clarion County, PA.
They are buried in Dehner Cemetery, Clarion County, PA. They had six children:
a. LaMerne Detar (known as "Myra" )was
born in 1885 in PA and died in 1935. She married Lawrence MARBACH who
died prior to the 1930 census . They had a daughter, Ruth who was born
1915 and died 1919.
b. Meda J. Detar was born July 1886 in Clarion County, PA
and died 1940 in PA. She seemingly never married.
c. Nellie C. Detar was born December 1889 in PA.
d. Pearl Arlene Detar was born
June 1894 in PA. She married George E. ONGLEY, son of Wilber G and Emma
Ongley. George was born 27 Nov 1893 in Crawford County, PA. They
lived in Niagara County, New York. They had a daughter named
Phyllis Arlene Ongley (2 April 1920 NY - 15 April 2008) who married Jay L.
McElwain (11 Nov 1920-15 Dec 1994).
e. David Dewey Detar, Sr., MD was born 15 July 1898 in PA
and died 12 September 1973 in Montgomery Co., PA. He married Emma Elizabeth BURDAN,
daughter of Harry and Jennie E. Burdan, on 17 Nov 1926. Emma was born 14 June
1900 and died 18 April 1979 in Montgomery Co., PA.
e. George Lee Detar was born September 1899 in Venango
Co., PA . He
married Julia B. (maiden name unknown) who was born 15 November 1905 in PA and
died 10 December 1994 in Venango County, PA.
2. Mary E. Detar was born 15 December 1863 in Clarion County and died in 1865 in Clarion
County, PA.
3. Clement M. Detar was born 2 July 1868 in Clarion Co., PA and died in 1943 in Clarion
County, PA. He married Cora M. KAPP, daughter of George Frederick Kapp and Melissa
Jane Seigworth, about 1890. Cora was born June 1870 in Clarion Co., PA and died in 1959 in
Clarion County, PA. They are buried in Venus Cemetery in Washington Township,
Clarion County, PA. Cora is a sister of Brady Kapp who married Flora
Annetta Detar (see below). Clement and Cora had four children:
a. Ray DeForest Detar was born 2 May 1895 in Clarion Co., PA and
died July 1963 in PA. He married Florence I. BAKER, daughter of Frank M.
and Emma E. Baker, about
1921. Florence was born October 1894 in Clarion County, PA.
b. Jessie
I. Detar was born January 1899 in Venango County, PA.
c. David D. Detar was born 20 March 1908 in Clarion County, PA
and died April 1986 in Clarion County, PA.
d. Dorothy M. Detar was born about 1912 in Clarion County, PA.
4. Carman Y. Detar, MD was born 13 September 1870 in Clarion County,
PA and died in 1936 in Oil Hill, PA. He first married Minerva M. MAHLE on 21 February
1895. She was born 1873 in Fryburg, Clarion County, PA and died 19 January 1917 in Oil
City, Venango Co., PA. Carman and Minerva had three children:
a. Reed Leroy Detar,
Sr., DDS who was born 1 January 1896 in PA and died 28 January 1977 in New
Haven, CT. He married Elizabeth EICHNER who was born 1898 in PA and died
1964.
b. Russell O. Detar was born 1902 in PA and died 1944.
c. Margaret Detar was born 24 May 1905 in PA and died
January 1974 in Duval County, Florida. She married Harry H. ASHBAUGH who
was born 9 June 1905 in PA and died 15 March 1988 in Duval County, Florida.
Carman then married Janet HEIVLY (maiden name) CORNELIUS on 14 February 1920 in Clarion
County, PA. Janet was born about 1888 in PA.
5. Homer J. Detar was born 15 February 1872 in Fryburg, Clarion
County, PA and died 24 February
1948 in Canton, Stark Co., Ohio. He married Maude E. BAKER, daughter of Joseph
Clark Baker
and Alice P. Dale, on 24 June 1891 in Erie, PA. Maude was born 8 January 1871 in
Shippensville, PA and died 23 September 1943 in Buffalo, New York.
They had six children:
a. Lela I. Detar was born 14 August 1893 in Venango
County, PA & died as an infant.
b. Harry Alvin Detar was born 23 September 1896 in Venango
Co., PA and died 29 June 1966 in Wonawanda, Erie Co., NY. He married Selma
STONE, daughter of Gust A. and Lillie Stone, about 1920. They had three children: Margaret
Jane Detar, Nancy Lou Detar and David Detar.
c. James "Russell" Detar was born 22
May 1901 in Venango Co., PA and died 29 October 1980 in Rochester, Monroe Co., NY. He
married Anna JUTKIEWICG who was born 9 April 1898 in Rochester, NY and died 5
Jan 1996 in Monroe Co., NY. They had three children: Frances Edward
"Bud" Detar, Virginia Detar and Annabell Detar.
d. Hollis Detar was born 1903 in Venango Co., PA & died as an
infant.
e. Sarah
E. Detar was born 23 Sept 1906 in Venango Co., PA and died 1960. She married
Kenneth NEWTON who was born about 1907 in PA. They had five children: Jane Newton, Luanne Newton, Marjorie
Newton, Kenneth A. Newton and James B. Newton (15 Nov 1933 - 23 Dec 1997).
f. Alice M. Detar was born 1906 and died 1974. She
was a twin of Sarah. Alice married William SCHICK and had three
children: William Schick (abt 1932-1974), Betty Schick and Russell Schick
6. Clarence Mead Detar known as "Clyde" was born 12 July 1875 in Clarion County, PA and died
in 1932.
Clyde seems to have never married and was living with is parents in 1910 at the
age of 34.
7. Perry L. Detar was born 23 March 1880 in Clarion County, PA and died
as an infant.
8. Benjamin Earl Detar was born 19 April 1882 in Clarion County,
PA and died in 1932 in
Clarion County, PA. He married Ethel E. REED who was born about 1886 in
Pennsylvania. In 1910 this family was living in Oil City, Venango County, PA. They had
two daughters and two sons:

Hannah Mary Detar was born 19 November 1837 in Beaver Township,
Venango County (later to become Clarion County) , PA and died 28 December 1913 in
Clarion County, PA. She married Samuel Clayton SHEATS, son of Eli Sheatz and
Eva Maria Kahl, on 16 February 1864. Samuel
was born 9 July 1840 in Venango County, PA and died 17 December 1920 in Oil City, Venango County, PA.
He served in the Civil War and received a medical discharge. In the 1880
census for Salem Township, Clarion County, PA, Samuel was listed as a
teacher. This couple
was living in Oil
City, Venango County, PA in the 1910 census. In 1920, Samuel was living as
a widower with his youngest daughter, Pearl, and her family. This couple had
ten children.
1. William Elsworth Sheats was born 10 February 1865 in Salem Township, Clarion
County, PA and died 2 September
1943. He married Florence FOX who was born 8 August 1869 and died 27 September
1927 in Venango County, PA. They had a daughter.
a. Vada Sheats was born 8
October 1901 in Venango County, PA and died March 1975 in Oil City, PA.
Her first husband was Claude HEALD who was born about 1897 in New York and died in 1958. Vada
later married Thomas SHANAHAN who died in 1967. Vada and Claude had
three children: Charles W. Heald (1924-1924), Helen R. Heald (born 11 Oct
1925 - 22 Jan 2007) who married Charles Howard COZAD, Jr. (24 March 1922-8 July
2000), and Arthur Duane Heald (26 October 1928-27 November 1950) who was in the Korean War and was listed as missing in action.
2. Joseph Ervin Sheats was born June 1866 in Clarion County, PA
and moved to Kansas after 1900. Joseph died sometime after the 1930
census. His first wife was Sarah
"Sadie" McKISSICK, daughter of A.T. McKissick and Rebecca
Culbertson, who was born in February 1862 in Fertigs, Venango County, PA
and died in Kansas between 1900 and 1910. Joseph's second wife
was Nellie F. (maiden name unknown) but had been married previously to a Mr.
Davenport). Nellie was born about 1886 in Kansas and died after the 1930
census. They had a son, a. James Sheats was
born about 1910 in Montgomery County, Kansas.
3. Samuel Sheridan Sheats known as "Sherril" was born 25 December 1868 in Lamartine,
Clarion County, PA and died 5 November 1960 in Oil City, Venango County, PA.
He married Elma Viola FRANK, daughter of George Elias Frank and Clarissa Jane
Simmons, on 2 July 1895 in Salamanca, New York. Elma [sometimes written as Alma] was born 19 May 1876
in Venango County, PA and died 10 April
1957 in Venango County, PA. They had five children.
a. Milford Leroy Sheats was born 11 March 1896 in Venango County, PA and
died September 1983 in Martin County, Florida. He married Gladys L. DAVIS who was born
21 October 1897 and died December 1972 in Cleveland, Ohio. They had four
children: Glen Leroy Sheats (17 Feb1918- 11 Dec 1993), Melvin D. Sheats
(17 Feb 1920-8 Jan 1999), Ruth Sheats and Richard Sheats (8 Dec 1927-22 Nov
1996).
b. Harold E. Sheats was born 29 November 1897 in Venango County, PA and died
January 1969 n

was born about 1907 in Pennsylvania and died 3 November 1968. They had
two daughters named Estella Viola Sheats and Doris S. Sheats and a son named
Ronald E. Sheats.
c. Donald E. Sheats was born 15 June 1900 in Venango County, PA and died
February 1970 in Chautauqua County, New York. He married Leona [maiden name unknown] who was born 21 November 1902 and died July 1972 in
Chautauqua Co., New York.
d. George "Clayton" Sheats was born 20 July 1903 in Venango
County, PA and died 19 March 1954. He married Alyce WARREN, daughter of
John and Anne E. Warren. Alice was born 27 March 1908 in PA and died 18
May 1991.
e. Lena "Ione" Sheats was born 3 July 1906 in Venango County, PA
and died 22 June 1997 in Lake County, Ohio. She married Charles ROSS who
died in 1981.

4. John "Edward" Sheats was born 6 October 1871 in
Clarion County, PA and died 5 April
1951. Edward first married Alice [maiden name unknown] about 1899 in
PA. Alice was born in May 1881 in PA. He then married Margie Belle DELOE, daughter of Simon Amos Deloe and
Prescilla F. Stover. Margie was born 5 July 1884 in PA died December 1973
in Oil City, Venango County, PA. Margie had children from previous marriage(s). One daughter named Dorothy Richards is listed as a
stepdaughter of Edward's and is 10 years of age in the 1930
census.
5. Druscilla V. Sheats known as "Drucie" was born 12 December 1872
in Clarion County, PA and died 19 May
1945. She married William C. HAGEN, son of Ellen, who was born 17 November 1868 in Clarion
County and died in 1918 in Venango County, PA. In the 1910 census, this
family was living in Oil City, PA. They had twelve children.

County, PA. In the 1880 census she is listed as 6 years of age. She
died 15 Sept 1892.
7. Vernon Augusta Sheats was born 25 October 1876 in Lamartine,
Clarion County, PA and died 9 June 1959 in Oil City, Venango County, PA. He married Nina
"Beatrice" MOORE in 1905. She was born 2 February 1884 and died 26
August 1965 in Venango County, PA. They had three children.

Grace Sheats was born 19 March 1907 and died December 1977 in Venango County, PA. She married
Samuel H. LOWRY who was born 25 November 1908 and died 9 November 1992 in
Venango Co., PA.
b. Samuel "Lee" Sheats was born 29 August 1908 and died
1952. He married Margaret [maiden name unknown].
c. James B. Sheats was born 13 September 1909 and died 11 February 1998 in Oil
City, PA. He married Marion O'BRIEN on 4 July 1942.
8. Farz "Farry" Sheats was born 25 October 1876 in
Clarion County, PA.
Nothing further is known about Farz. It seems that he was the
twin of Vernon. He is not listed in the 1880 census so we assume that he
died at a young age.
9. Pearl L. Sheats was born 24 August 1878 in Clarion County, PA
and died 14 January 1963.
She married George Harvey KRUG, son of George Harvey Krug and Margaret Monkern,
on 7 November 1900. He was born 2 July 1878 in Venango Co., PA. This couple had six
children.
a. Earl H. Krug was born 26 May 1901 in Venango County,
PA and died 14 September 1991.
b. Lorraine Katherine Krug was born 14 November 1902 in Venango
Co., PA and died 13 November 1998 in Oil City,
PA. She married James L. REYNOLDS on 25 November 1929. James was born
30 March 1904 and died May 1981.
c. Ralph H. Krug was born 27 August 1906 in Venango Co., PA and died June 1970 in Venango
County, PA. d. George H. Krug was born 21 Aug 1908 in Venango
Co., PA.
e. Robert Sheats Krug was born 28 Nov 1911 in Venango County, PA
and died 22 March 2004 in Beaufort County, SC. He married Pauline (maiden
name unknown) who was born 24 Sept 1911 and died 8 Aug 1999 in Beaufort County,
SC. f. Margaret J. Krug was born 29 May 1918 in Venango County,
PA.
10. Milford Bryan C. Sheats was born 19 April 1881 in Clarion
County, PA and died 27 July
1963 in Kern County, California. He married Florence "Wilda" McCALL who was born 27 July 1888 in PA and died September 1972 in Kern County,
California. In 1910, this couple was living in Oil City, PA and had no
children at that time.
SUSANNAH DETAR (1841-?)
Susannah Detar was born 1 May 1841 in Clarion County, PA and
died between 1900 and 1919 in Venango Co., PA.
She married Jacob M. CONRAD, don of Daniel and Susanna Conrad, on 12 November 1868. Jacob was born
April 1839 in Clarion County, PA and died after the 1900 census. They had two children.
1. Arthur Y. Conrad was born 18 September 1869 in PA and died in 1962. He
married Netta "Nettie" B. KRUG, daughter of George Harvey Krug and
Margaret Monkern. Nettie was born in October 1872 in PA and died in 1957.
In 1910, they were living in Venango County, PA. This couple had seven children:
a. Mildred M. Conrad (April 1896-1960) who married Joseph
"Lee" LOURET. Lee was born 4 Nov 1896 in Verndale, Minnesota and
died April 1970 in Oil City, Venango County, PA.
b. Marjorie J. Conrad (May 1898-1929) who
married Guy FOSTER.
c. Paul K. Conrad (28 Feb 1901-Feb 1980) who married Ethel
A. McELHATTAN (29 May 1902-15 March 1991). In the 1920 census they were
living in Stowe Twp., Allegheny County, PA where Paul was a high school science
teacher. No children at that time.
d. Louise Conrad (1904-1965) who married Fred INGRAHAM
sometime after 1930.
e. W. Arthur Conrad (born 1906) who married
Elizabeth GOODWIN.
f. Boyd J. Conrad (21 April 1908-Nov 1984) who married Jeannette A. JEFFRIES
(24 Sept 1912-30 March 1998).
g. G. Dean Conrad (born 1910) who married Lynn (maiden name
unknown).
2. William Harrison D. Conrad known as "Harry" was born
October 1871 in
Clarion County, PA and died 1949. He married
Bernice A. SHEFFER who was born 13 December 1878 in PA and died after the 1920 census.
In 1910, they were living in Clarion County, PA with one daughter, Martha
O. They had three children:
a. Martha Olive Conrad (11 April 1907-19 March 1993) who married Archie LINGO
(18 July 1907-July 1985).
b. Harold E. Conrad who was born about 1902 either in
Clarion County or Venango County, PA.
c. Elizabeth Jane Conrad (known as Betty) was born 21 Dec
1918 in Venango
County, PA. She married Robert PETTIGREW.
DANIEL ELIAS DETAR (1842-1923)
Daniel Elias Detar was born 21 May 1842 in Clarion County, PA and died
in 1923 in Clarion County, PA. He married Catherine Anna HONDEL, daughter of
John and Clarissa Hondel, on 1 October 1868. Catherine was born 17 June 1850
in Clarion County, PA and died in 1922. They are buried in Venus Cemetery
in Washington Township, Clarion County, PA. In 1910, they were living in
Clarion County, PA. They had five children.
1. Elmer Martin Detar was born 15 September 1869 in Clarion
County and died May 1952 in
Clarion County, PA. He married Carrie May BYERS, daughter of Albert L. and
Margaret H. Byers, on 18 September 1893 in Meadville,
PA. Carrie was born 23 April 1871 in Venango County, PA and died 30 September
1952 in Clarion County, PA. They are buried in Venus Cemetery. They
had two children:
a. Floyd Leroy Detar was born 10 Jan 1894 in Clarion County, PA
and died 1967. He married Elda Elizabeth FRANK, daughter of Solomon H. and
Claudia R. Frank, Elda was born 7 Oct 1899 in Clarion County, PA and died
May 1979 in Venango County, PA.
b. Twila Mae Detar was born 30 July 1908 and died June 1982
in Venango Co., PA. She married Ivan Sinclair EBBERT, son of Burton
Wellington Ebbert and Carrie Louisa Eike. Ivan was born 24 Jan 1905 and
died 16 July 1975 in Venango County, PA.
2. Webster W. Detar was born 15 January 1871 in Clarion County,
PA and died on 26
May 1943 in Clarion County,
PA. He is buried in Venus Cemetery, Washington Township, Clarion County,
PA along with many other members of this family.
3. Flora Annetta Detar was born 16 April 1875 in Clarion County,
PA and died 1 January 1952
in Grove City, Mercer County, PA. She married Brady Carson KAPP, son of
George Frederick Kapp and Melissa Jane Seigworth, in 1896. Brady was
born 29 June 1874 in Clarion Co., PA and died 20 December 1954. Brady and
Cora (wife of Clement M. Detar) are siblings. Flora and Brady had six children:
a. Ione Erla Kapp was born 2 October 1897 in Venango Co., PA and
died there on 3 February 1974. She married Arley
Delbert BEARY, son of Solomon G. and Laura A. Beary. Arley was born 19 Aug
1895 in Clarion Co., PA and died December 1963.
b. Leland Allison Kapp was born 15 August 1899 in Venango co.,
PA and died there in December 1983. He married Ruby Agnes
FRENCH who was born 25 February 1898 in Venango Co., PA and died 29 Feb
1992 in Spartanburg, SC.
c. Orville Roland Kapp was born 10 July 1905 in PA and
died 12 June1992 in Forest Co., PA. He married Agnes Cecelia POULAN (born
1906).
d. Olive E. Grace Kapp was born 7 November 1908 and died 8 August
1970. Olive married James S.
HANSCOM.
e. Dorothy Lucille Kapp was born 12 March 1910 in Clarion
County, PA and died 13 August 1998 in Forest County, PA. She married Floyd
Ellsworth SEIGWORTH, son of Leonard M. and Elizabeth M. Seigworth.
Floyd was born 1 July 1897 in Clarion Co., PA and died April 1966.
f. George Siggins Kapp was born 18 July 1911 in Clarion
Co., PA and died 20 January 1964. He married Mildred V. SHORTS, daughter
of Clyde Alonzo Shorts and Mabel Leona Masters. Mildred was born 16 Aug
1912 in Clarion Co., PA and died 28 Sept 2009. They had 4
sons.
4. Mary Grace Detar was born 26 December 1879 in Clarion County,
PA and died
30 May 1958.
She married Eugene Carman KAHLE, son of Dorsey P. Kahle and Rosa B. Sigworth,
on 11 December 1913 in Chicago, Illinois.
Eugene was born in January 1870 in Clarion County, PA and died in 1954.
5. Olive Mondella Detar was born 27 May 1885 in Clarion County,
PA and died 17 November 1967 in Venango Co., PA. She married Harry Perdue KAHLE,
son of Dorsey P. Kahle and Rosa B. Sigworth, on 14 September 1910 in Clarion
County, PA. Harry was born 23 March 1880 in Clarion County, PA and died 17 April
1926 in Venango County, PA.
This couple had four children: a. Arlene Valree Kahle
was born 29 May 1912 and died 17 Nov 2001 in Clarion Co., PA. She married William Oscar
HUGUS on 10 Aug 1935. William was born 17 August 1904 and died March 1986

JOSEPH WELLINGTON DETAR (1848-1925)
Joseph Wellington Detar was born 13 July 1848 in Clarion County,
PA and died 16 March 1925 in Clarion Co., PA. He married Catherine "Elizabeth" DAUM, daughter of
Rheinard and Anna Maria Daum, on 25 December 1873. Catherine was born 27 September 1850 in Clarion
County, PA and died on 26 January 1929 in Clarion
County, PA. They are buried in Salem Cemetery, Clarion County,
PA. This couple had twelve children.
1. Cecelia Daritha Detar was born 27 September 1874 and died 27 December 1882
in Clarion County, PA at the age of 8. She is buried in Salem Cemetery, Lamartine, Clarion
County, PA with many other members of this family.
2. Vernon M. Detar was born 13 November 1875 and died 22 March 1965 in
Clarion County, PA. Vernon did not marry. He is buried in Salem
Cemetery.
3. Perry Sylvester Detar was born 9 March 1877 and died 23 February 1898
in Clarion County, PA at 21 years of age and unmarried. He is buried in
Salem Cemetery.
4. John Wesley Detar was born 23 August 1878 and died 18 May 1934 in

5. Anna Gertrude Detar was born 20 March 1880 and died 29 January 1882
in Clarion County, PA. She died at 1 year and 10 months of age. She
is buried at Salem Cemetery.
6. Charles Rhinard Detar was born 1 February 1882 in Clarion
County, PA and died 24 December
1944 in Robinson, Crawford Co., Illinois. He married Belle Lottie RHEINOLD on 6 June 1913. Belle
was born about 1892 in Illinois. They had three children:
a. Rex R. Detar who was born 22 Sept 1914 in
Illinois and died 6 Sept 1990.
b. Reva (or Reba) G. Detar was born about 1916 in Crawford
County, IL
c. Heloise H. Detar was born about 1919 in Crawford
County, IL
7. Ira D. Detar was born 11 August 1883 and died 14 April 1960 in
Clarion County, PA. He married Goldie I. CRIBBS who was born 19 July 1885 and
died 28 August 1988. They had a son:
a. William Robert Detar who was born 7 July 1913 in Clarion
County, PA and died 25 Feb 2000 in Anderson, South Carolina. William
married
Edna SHEPHARD who was born 16 Aug 1916 in PA and died 3 Sept 1993 in Butler
County, PA.
8. Oren Odell Detar was born 28 February 1885 and died 18 December 1952 in
Clarion County, PA. He is buried in Salem Cemetery. He married Margaret MILLS and had a son:
a. Robert Detar
9. Merle Clayton Detar was born 5 May 1887 and died 25 July 1961 in
Clarion County, PA. Merle did not marry. He is buried at Salem
Cemetery.
10. Harry Benton Detar was born 9 December 1888 in Clarion
County and died September 1974 in
Chautauqua County, New York. Harry is buried in Salem Cemetery, Clarion
Co., PA. He married Sophia PUDDEN on 4 April
1946. She was born 20 January 1890 and died in February 1981 in Chautauqua County, New
York.
11. Grace Lueta Detar was born 10 April 1891 Clarion County, PA and died 17 January 1964 in
Clarion County, PA. She married George L. BASHLINE, son of Albert and
Christine Bashline, on 8 October 1920. George
was born 24 April 1896 in Salem Twp., Clarion County, PA.
They had a son:
a. James D. Bashline was born 10 Dec 1922 in Oklahoma and
died 29 June 2004 in Jefferson County, PA. He married Jean SERVEY.
12. Guy Alvin Detar was born 22 June 1893 and died 20 March 1957 in
Clarion County, PA. He married Mabel Florence RHOADS on 30 June 1920.
Mabel was born 20 March 1893 and died 22 June 1993 in Clarion County, PA.
They are buried at Salem Cemetery. They had three children:
a. Sarah Elizabeth Detar (born 1925). b. Vaughn Alvin
Detar who was born 14 December 1927 in Clarion County, PA and died 15 Sept 2005
in Concord, Cabarrus Co., NC. He married Mary Joan WHITE (known as Kitty)
who was born 11 Sept 1931 and died 30 Dec 2006 in Concord, Cabarrus Co., NC. c. Richard Merl Detar (born 1932) who married Louisa Mae SANDERS.
SIMON A. DETAR (1850-1936)
Simon A. Detar was born 1 November 1850 in Clarion County, PA and
died in 1936. He married Mary E. ATTLEBERGER, daughter of Samuel
Attleberger and Jane McGinnis, on 28 May 1878. She was
born 14 July 1856 in Clarion County, PA and died 16 February 1910 in Clarion County, PA. They had
three children.
1. Ethel Ophelia Detar was born 8 April 1879 in Clarion County,
PA and died 27 October 1915
in Clarion County, PA. She never married. She is buried in Salem
Cemetery, Clarion County, PA.
2. Leroy Roland or Rolland L. Detar known as "Rolley"
was born 11 May
1880 in Clarion Co., PA and died 25 November 1955 in Clarion County, PA. Rolley married Rossetta
Belle LAUGHNER (known as Rosie), daughter of Elias and Anna L. Laughner, on 7 July 1903. Rosie was born 3 February 1880
in Clarion Co., PA and died in 29 June 1954 in Clarion County, PA.
This couple had eight children:
a. Virginia Ellen Detar who was born 26 Jan 1904 in Dakon, West
Virginia and died Feb 1982 in Clarion County, PA. She married James
FLEMING on 28 Sept 1921. James was born 27 Dec 1895 in West Virginia and
died Oct 1986 in Clarion County, PA. They had 5 children.
b. Lillian Irene Detar was born 26 Jan 1906 in Dakon, West Virginia.
She married Fred H. WEAVER, son of Martin L. and Rebecca J. Weaver. Fred was born 20 Nov
1900 in Clarion County, PA and died Sept 1980 in Venango County, PA.
They had 3 children.
c. Myra Ophelia Detar was born 4 Dec 1907 in West
Virginia. She married Claire OAKES who was born 2 Oct 1905 in PA and died
Nov 1963. They had 6 children.
d. Leroy R. Detar was born 10 Dec 1909 in Unie, West
Virginia and died 26 July 1991. Leroy married Florence HARTZELL who was
born 29 Oct 1913 and died 5 Nov 1997 in PA. They had 2 children.
e. Athlyn Esther Detar was born 5 March 1913 in Salem Twp.,
Clarion Co., PA and died 20 Dec 2002 in PA. . She married Clifford
L. RHOADES on 16 May 1934. Clifford
was born 18 Jan 1912 in PA and died 22 Feb 2004 in PA. They had one
son.
f. Willard Laughner Detar was born 15 August 1915 in
Salem Twp., Clarion Co., PA and died 5 July 1994 in McKean County,
PA. He married
Frances T. MUNDAY on 15 Aug 1938. Frances was born 26 March 1920 and died
Sept 1994 in McKean Co., PA. They had 2 daughters.
g. Carl Lorraine Detar was born 13 July 1917 in Salem Twp.,
Clarion County, PA and died 5 November 1985 in McKean Co., PA. He first
married Hazel L. BLAIR (26 Nov 1914 WVA - 8 June 1962 PA), daughter of Daniel and
Stella Blair. This marriage
ended in divorce. They had 5 children.
He second married Armine "Monty" SOUTH (30
July 1929 KY-13 Sept 2007 AZ). They had one son.
h. Clifford Lawrence Detar (Sr.) was born 6 April 1920 in Salem Twp.,
Clarion County, PA and died on 10 March 2005 in Clarion County, PA. He
first married Alma BERLIN. This marriage ended in divorce. They had
one daughter.
He second
married Mary DANIELS, daughter of Ralph Daniels and Florence Elva Slaughenhaupt.
They had one son.
3. Melvin Lorraine Detar was born 14 February 1893 in Clarion County and
died Jan 1977 in Allegheny Co., PA. He is buried in Salem Cemetery, Lamartine, Clarion
County, PA along with many other members of this family. Melvin married
Margaret McANINCH, daughter of David Lewis and Rosella McAninch. Margaret was born
May 1894 in Clarion County, PA and died 9 Oct
1963. They had two children.

raised in the Joseph and Anna Marie Detar family. In the 1860 census, she is living with this family
at the age of 5. In the 1870 census she is living with this family at the
age of 14 and listed as Sarah J. Jackson. She later married Melanchon Attleberger who was the brother of Mary E. Attleberger who married
Simon Detar [see above].
