GENERAL INFORMATION

Johan Erhard Knappenberger, eldest son of Johan Albrecht Knappenberger and Anna Katharina, was born 30 June 1704 in Widdern, Wuerttemberg and died August 1776 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA.  He was the last sibling to arrive in Pennsylvania on the ship “Christian” that arrived in Philadelphia on 13 September 1749 with his wife and three sons.   He and his family settled in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA – which later became Lehigh County in 1812.  Johan Erhard married Sophie Helene WEISMUELLER, daughter on Hans Adam Weismueller, on 29 July 1730 in Widdern, Wuerttemberg.  She was born about 1708 in Widdern and died 12 May 1786 in Whitehall Township, Northampton County, PA.  Erhard and Sophie had four children.    There were some misinformation in earlier Knappenberger genealogy in the early 1900’s, that Erhard was the founder of all the eastern PA Knappenberger families.  But newer research now indicates that his brother, Michael, also arrived and many of the families descend from him.   Please review information carefully!
