GENERAL INFORMATION

Daniel Knappenberger was born 22 June 1833 in Kiskiminetas Township, Armstrong County, PA and died 12 November 1912 in Oak Ridge, Armstrong County, PA and was buried in Hawthorne Cemetery, Clarion County, PA.  Daniel was a farmer and a carpenter and was a postmaster at Belknap, Armstrong County, PA.

His obituary in the Leechburg, PA paper was headlined: An Old Armstrong County Man Laid to Rest.  It stated in part, “The deceased, Daniel Knappenberger, was the first one of the late John Knappenberger’s family to be called beyond, for 73 years and at that time a little sister, which died in infancy.  All the rest were present at his funeral.  Namely:  Jacob, aged 76 years; Gus, aged 73 years; Lucinda, widow of the late J.W. Klingensmith, aged 69 years and Henry, aged 66 years.  It is not very often that we find a family that so many have lived to see three score and part of them three score and ten.  Mr. Knappenberger’s wife, Nancy Walker, daughter of the late Robert Walker of Olivet, PA, had passed beyond to meet her master 23 years ago.  Mr. Knappenberger was well known in this section, for many years being engaged in the carpenter business and many houses and barns in old Kiskiminetas township were either built or helped in the building by the deceased.”

Daniel married Nancy WALKER, daughter of Robert Walker and Jane Porter, on 19 February 1857 in Armstrong County, PA.  Nancy was born 14 March 1835 in Armstrong County, PA and died 30 July 1889 in Armstrong County, PA and is buried in Hawthorne Cemetery, Redbank Township, Clarion County, PA.  This couple had eight children.
